Winter Market

Good news for all of you who miss the Brighton Farmers' Market!  The Brighton and South Wedge Farmers' Markets are collaborating to introduce a new indoor winter/spring farmers' market, the Long Season Farmers' Market, a unique regional collaboration to make local, healthy, sustainable food available year-round.  The market, jointly sponsored by the Town of Brighton and the South Wedge Planning Committee, will be held on the third Thursday of each month December through May, from 4-7 pm, at the Artisan Church, 1235 S. Clinton Ave., Rochester (north of the Highland/S. Clinton intersection).

The Long Season Market is an outlet for the abundant local foods that are currently available throughout the year and a way for farmers and consumers to continue the partnership begun during the regular farmers' market season.  Customers visiting the market will find a wide range of storage crop vegetables and fruit (potatoes, root vegetables, apples, winter squash), fresh salad greens, winter greens, herbs, a wide range of pasture-raised meats, eggs, cheese, bread and baked goods, and many other products produced on local farms.  In a continuation of the shared philosophy unique to the South Wedge and Brighton markets, farmers at the Long Season market will offer products raised using sustainable methods, including certified organic.  All of these delicious foods will be offered in a fun (warm) indoor market setting, with music, information and discussions, and prepared food to eat right at the market.

The first market will be held next Thursday, December 18.  One of the most popular groups of musicians from the Brighton Farmers' Market will be there; Clamor, a trio that includes Brighton's own Rick McRae, along with Steve Piper and Bruce Diamond, will perform their fun, eclectic mix of tunes.  Bring your family to the market; add a new monthly event to your winter schedule while you're waiting for the regular farmers' market season to begin again next spring.  In doing so, you will be participating in the growing movement to bring about positive change -- to make our food system more sustainable, healthier for our families and the environment, and to enjoy food that is more delicious as well.
